Soul Talkers - its time to write my last blog. My suitcase is packed, my refridgerator switched off, my central heating system drained, leaving parties attended, and just one last goodbye left to be said.
The 'deen will be absent of one drug dealing food fanatical Soul Talker, for she is venturing off to pastures new. Yes Soul Talkers, I'm off to Swaziland. How long for? I'm not too sure. I guess that will be determined by work, love, sense of fulfillment and patience. I'm very much looking for…

I was driving into work this morning listening to the radio. Audrey, you will all be pleased to hear, is still running, albeit she is possibly being held together by the inches of dirt and grime that has laid thick after 2 years of being washed naturally by the sky. Audrey can tune into only a few channels, which with the switch over to digital will soon be diminished to none. These days she is tuned into the grown up station of news and discussions. Lately, the news has been of little interest…

"In order to facilitate complete understanding between all people, a universal auxiliary language will be adopted and in the schools of the future two languages will be taught -- the mother tongue and this international auxiliary tongue which will be either one of the existing language or a new language made up of words from all the languages -- the matter is to be determined by a confederation met for the purpose which shall represent all tribes and nations. This international tongue will be…

Well Soul Talkers - I'm back in the land of Soul Talk - the thesis is done! I'm off to Chicago next week to present my findings - then I return to defend my thesis - I just want to say a big thank you to you all for being there for me during this rollercoaster time. I can categorically say its been a pleasure and welcome distraction. So now what? That is a good question. I'm going to do the classic - 'find myself' for a while - so I'm off to southern Africa to figure it out.

As with most children whose lives are changed, I adapted. I learnt to live with my situation and realised resistance was futile. I was better off keeping the peace and going along to feasts and sunday school. Life was quieter that way. Secretly I enjoyed them too but there was no way I was going to let on that I actually wanted to go - that would be saying that these new parents of mine were right.
A year after starting sunday school, my biological mother went for a 50+ breast screening and was…

So September came and Sunday School started. Everyone around me kept calling it the Break-something class. Breakdancing? Bakewell? Anyway whatever it was, I was told I had to go. I wasn’t impressed. Who wants to go to school on a Sunday? I mean come on! Sunday’s is about well....doing nothing. Sleeping in, eating a fry up for brunch, watching cartoons, going out to play, tidying up, preparing for school ON MONDAY, doing homework and building with lego. It was NOT about going to school! But the d…

I was thinking today about the weird things we remember. Certain people can recall exactly what they were doing when JFK was assassinated. I wasn't alive then, but I do remember the very first time I heard the word Baha'u'llah. I was 10 years old, in my twin brother's bedroom and he was telling me about his school which I was to attend from that August.
To put this story into context, I need to give you some background on my early years. In a nutshell, my biological mother gave birth to my twin…

‘God created one earth and one mankind to people it. Man has no other habitation, but man himself has come forth and proclaimed imaginary boundary lines and territorial restrictions, naming them Germany, France, Russia, etc. And torrents of precious blood are spilled in defense of these imaginary divisions of our one human habitation, under the delusion of a fancied and limited patriotism.
After all, a claim and title to territory or native land is but a claim and attachment to the dust of e…

Happy birthday Soul Talkers - Yesterday we had our first birthday. Why or how I know this is an anomaly of my brain - having the ability to retain useless facts and regurgitate them randomly and for no apparent reason - I'm working the random regurgitation, for example I've waited to until today to tell you - instead of say telling you say in June - when I had a slow month for blogging. Unfortunately I cannot rely on my grey matter to retain more useful information like which end of a rats arse…

SoulTalkers!!! Hello there! Its been a while since I blogged - so I thought I'd better put my fingers to the keyboard and communicate with you. So how have you been? What have you been upto? What's exciting you at the moment? What's challenging you?
Ok I'm guessing you are not actually wanting to read a blog about me asking you questions, and you may perhaps be wondering if you are just wasting your time reading this blog. You keep reading in the vain hope I might have something interesting to…

Today the world of humanity is walking in darkness because it is out of touch with the world of God. That is why we do not see the signs of God in the hearts of men.
(Abdu'l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 305)
So today I gave in – I bought 2 ‘fashion’ magazines. There is a reason: tomorrow I’m off on holiday and generally I don’t work well / concentrate when I travel – so I either sleep or do cross words. Having not been on a proper holiday in a number of years, and as I’m…

Heroes are they, O my Lord, lead them to the field of battle. Guides are they, make them to speak out with arguments and proofs. Ministering servants are they, cause them to pass round the cup that brimmeth with the wine of certitude. O my God, make them to be songsters that carol in fair gardens, make them lions that couch in the thickets, whales that plunge in the vasty deep.
(Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 224)

In every dispensation, there hath been the commandment of fellowship and love, but it was a commandment limited to the community of those in mutual agreement, not to the dissident foe. In this wondrous age, however, praised be God, the commandments of God are not delimited, not restricted to any one group of people, rather have all the friends been commanded to show forth fellowship and love, consideration and generosity and loving-kindness to every community on earth. Now must the lovers of…

So this morning I was browsing the BBC news and came across the following article discussing our fascination with the end of the world:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7600966.stm
The article was spurred on by the huge particle accelerator which will soon be switched on and may increase our understanding about the beginnings of our universe.
As with all things there are the sceptics and the melodramatics who believe the experiment could spell the end of the world. I was interested to read…

There is a radio programme on a Sunday morning called 'Desert Island Discs' - listening to it made me ponder as I couldn't think of a single track I would take with me - what about books? Which ones would I want to take on a desert island if I had to chose? So imagining myself as Tom Hanks in Cast Away, I made a list of the books I would want to find in those delivery packages.
Three books that have led me to the Baha’i Faith and lead me back whenever I stray are the Iqan, Seven Valleys and the…

“The purpose of the creation of man is the attainment of the supreme virtues of humanity through descent of the heavenly bestowals. The purpose of man's creation is, therefore, unity and harmony, not discord and separateness. If the atoms which compose the kingdom of the minerals were without affinity for each other, the earth would never have been formed, the universe could not have been created. Because they have affinity for each other, the power of life is able to manifest itself, and the…

‘Knowledge is as wings to man's life, and a ladder for his ascent. Its acquisition is incumbent upon everyone.’
Baha’u’llah, Tablet of TAJALLÍYÁT (Effulgences)
So I am exhibiting what most psychologists would describe as ‘displacement activity’. Now I haven’t started to scratch or over-groom myself – much to the dismay of my colleagues – nor have I found a fetish for picking fleas from the fur those in my herd – I am simply finding all sorts of things to do instead of writing my thesis.…

When we carefully investigate the kingdoms of existence and observe the phenomena of the universe about us, we discover the absolute order and perfection of creation. The dull minerals in their affinities, plants and vegetables with power of growth, animals in their instinct, man with conscious intellect and the heavenly orbs moving obediently through limitless space are all found subject to universal law, most complete, most perfect.
(Abdu'l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p.…

'Abdu'l-Bahá said: " Fighting, and the employment of force, even for the right cause, will not bring about good results. The oppressed who have right on their side, must not take that right by force; the evil would continue. Hearts must be changed. The rich must wish to give! Life in man should be like a flame, warming all with whom it comes into contact. The spiritually awakened are like to bright torches in the sight of God, they give light and comfort to their fellows."
When asked if he d…

The All-Knowing Physician hath His finger on the pulse of mankind. He perceiveth the disease, and prescribeth, in His unerring wisdom, the remedy. Every age hath its own problem, and every soul its particular aspiration. The remedy the world needeth in its present-day afflictions can never be the same as that which a subsequent age may require. Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and centre your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements.
We can well perceive h…
